Photography is now increasingly popular along with the times and technology. Photojournalism has the power to bridge language barriers. Through photos, a person can tell about an event, activity, expression, or even share ideas with others. In the world of journalism, photos are a very important requirement. Because apart from being a complement to news, photos are also one of the attractions for the fans. Phenomenal events can also be recorded through photographs or journalistic photography. One of the Indonesian photojournalists who won the award from the Indonesian Photography Journalist Award for the People in The News category in 2020, Kristianto Purnomo, with his work entitled "Exception Rejected". By revealing the meaning of denotation, connotation, and myth according to Roland Barthes contained in the photo by Kristianto Purnomo. From the data studied through Roland Barthes' semiotics, several results were obtained, namely: the meaning of denotation which describes a Papuan activist who is undergoing trial at the Central Jakarta District Court. For connotation analysis, it shows the courage to reveal the identity of a defendant who is undergoing trial.
